Conner Ball – Hold On For Me (2020)

Love is all around us, but there are times when falling in love just has to wait. ‘Hold on for Me’ is a single by Conner Ball that epitomises these moments and the emotions linked to them. The song looks at dreaming and waiting for the person you are meant to fall in love with. It considers the moment you tell them that you will wait for them and ask the same in return. This easily melodramatic topic is handled with finesse by Ball.

As part of a dual debut release, the song starts an exploration of love, life and faith. While Ball has been playing the guitar since the age of 10 and been in a number of cover bands, these are his first solo releases. I am glad his wife challenged him to give a solo career a shot because his musicality is captivating.

The guitar opening of ‘Hold on for Me’ leads you to Ball’s strong vocals. The guitar-driven melody is a chilled acoustic backdrop for his performance. It forms a light and soft layer for you to rest on as you are overwhelmed by the emotions of the single. His vocal performance has an honesty to it combined with raw emotions that make you wonder if the other person feels the same. It is an understated performance that is beautiful in its seeming simplicity.

There are so many emotions that you are taken through in the song that leaves you feeling strangely at ease by the end of it. You start with wondering if the person you are meant to love exists before swinging to hoping that your emotions are returned. There is a pining quality to this single that makes you hope for the best.

Conner Ball sets you on an emotional rollercoaster with the gentle yearning of ‘Hold on for Me’. The single looks at falling in love, waiting for the other person and hoping that they do the same. The guitar-driven melody combines with the vocals to gently take you through an emotional storm.
