Concrete Green – Lazy Lou (2023)

While this is the first time we hear of Concrete Green, the mind behind the moniker Daniel Green has been on the scene for some time. As a busy session musician and playing in various bands, Green has worked with various producers and writers, including John Cornfield (Supergrass and Razorlight). Not only that he has toured Europe bringing audiences a gig to be remembered. Taking all these experiences, Green is embracing a solo project as the quirky, obscure but entirely engaging Concrete Green. Come with us as we delve into his debut single ‘Lazy Lou’.

Growing up between London and Tel Aviv, Daniel Green’s life is a blend of cultures and influences expressed through his introspective project Concrete Green. The single ‘Lazy Lou’ presents as an offbeat pop-rock song with a light-hearted cheer that can easily be placed as a theme song to South Park. An initial reaction is “well, this is pretty cute and fun” …wait a couple of seconds. From the bubbly eccentricity of the lighter pop tone, a swift swoop of sound tugs you to a heavier, more forceful slip of alternative rock with crashing guitars and a pounding drum. Then back again to that South Park joviality. Nostalgic in the reminiscence of 90s rock, Green brings a smile to at least my face with ‘Lazy Lou’; however, just as it is retro there is a refreshing contemporary vibe to the single.

Just as the melody has an off-kilter tone to keep you engaged, the profound lyricism brings a thought-provoking quality to the song. An observer of modern-day society, Green explores the existential search for meaning in a world of confusion. Green explains:

“The debut single ‘Lazy Lou’ delves into the captivating tale of a…search for meaning. From exploring monotheistic religion to finding solace on a familiar dirty couch…the song navigates themes of identity and introspection.”
