CODYY – Quarter To Midnight (2024)

Insatiably intoxicating, infectious, intriguing and intimate, singer-songwriter CODYY has a lot of charming qualities…and then some. Raised in a musical home, Andrew Cody (performing as CODYY) discovered pure passion for music at a young age – a hot burning passion that you know is fate calling. Drawn to the piano, his natural connection with composing was born and over the years he expanded his musical talent to guitar, bass, vocals and production. Energetic performances, engaging melodies and an electrifying spark emerged leading to international acclaim, sharing the stage with notable Irish acts (The Academic, Aslan and Gavin James), as well as becoming a “prominent one to watch on the Irish and UK landscape…”

Eager to expand his horizons, CODYY has teamed up with world-class producers to “elevate his writing and production skills, along with his already vast musical palette.” Following his well-received single ‘White Lightening’, CODYY takes centre-stage tackling performance and production sides of the new track ‘Quarter To Midnight’.

While ‘White Lightening’ sends an electric shock down your spine with its bold, upbeat, high-tempo melody, ‘Quarter To Midnight’ steps aside from rush to rolling rhythms. Ultimately an acoustic indie-pop ballad, the new track lolls with piano-driven harmonies joined by a rhythmic acoustic guitar. Yet, as much as the song slides along your heart in its soothing manner, there is an electric quality with underlying beats. It is here that CODYY showcases his mastery teetering on the border of organic and synthetic with harmonic unity.

Just as the track has the balance of organic and synthetic, there is a balance between kaleidoscopic and simplicity. Each instrument melds together in a beautiful shimmering layer of sound; however, duality exists with CODYY’s movement from sparseness to rich musical floods. CODYY’s vocals are prominent here as his barebones array clinches the production’s intricacy.

Sincere, sentimental and reflective, ‘Quarter To Midnight’ takes CODYY on a new musical trajectory. In my opinion, he is no longer one to watch on the UK and Irish scene, he is a pioneer to follow.
