CMON CMON – Headwind (2025)

As we become adults, we’re told to stop kidding around, stop being a child, act your age and not your shoe size; however, it’s always important to keep some childish innocence burning bright – enter CMON CMON. Embracing this artistic, youthful passion for music, three college friends reconnected in their 40s to create no-nonsense, hands-on, “do what you want and don’t worry about stereotypes” melodies for an eager audience. While this is my introduction to CMON CMON, the lads are already turning heads far beyond their Belgium borders, featuring on notable publications, international radio stations, and working with renowned industry professionals. One of the most recent additions to their discography is the single, ‘Headwind’.

Recorded and produced by British producer James Brown with engineering by Fieke van den Hurk and Dirk Joosten, and mastering by Carl Saff, ‘Headwind’ is the third track (and title track) off their new EP. Smooth, soothing and sophisticated, ‘Headwind’ immediately grabs you and sets you off on a glittering sonic river. Brimming with elegance and maturity, you quickly notice the professionalism of this production team; however, a slip of youthful innocence shines in ‘Headwind’, enhancing raw, heartfelt tenderness in the refined melody.

A beautiful concoction of soaring guitars, shimmering keys, and a pulsating drum, CMON CMON offers a full-bodied melody. The thing is, and this is for me, I find the dulcet vocals to be one of the outstanding features. Warm and rich, but with a playful wistfulness, the vocals simultaneously bind the song and sliver through it with languid appeal.

Melodically, ‘Headwind’ is a luxurious wave of music, but one has to mention the powerful theme. A song about individuality, empowerment and self-worth, the track tells you to follow your own path regardless of any obstacles or challenges. In fact, CMON CMON encourage you to stand up to those obstacles because overcoming difficulties leads to a happier, stronger, more resilient you.

In addition to the single, CMON CMON released an official music video for ‘Headwind’. You can view the video below or on their YouTube channel.
