Cloe Wilder – Life’s a Bitch (2025)
Floridian teen Cloe Wilder is exploring the world and her experiences with her aptly named new EP, Life’s a Bitch. You might be as shocked as I was to discover such a polished vocalist and poetic songwriter has only been around for 4 years.
From the first track ‘Tallahassee’ I was all in; a great piece of pop, folk with a distinctive country vibe. It’s a fantastic exploration of young love and all the tribulations that come with it. Next came what for me is the best track of the album, ‘Heavyweight Champion’. I loved the confidence in the lyrics and hope Wilder lets all know she’s ready to take on anything that comes her way. I especially loved the chorus with the line “I am a fucking assassin, Aren’t you a sweet little thing?, Come on, come at me and swing”. With the title track ‘Life’s a Bitch’, Wilder shows her musical talent as well as her songwriting ability. I couldn’t help but draw comparisons with some of the great female artists out there at the minute, namely Amy Shark..
Approaching the midway point of the EP and the tempo drops with balled ‘So 17’, this was a nice change of pace and again brought songwriting to the forefront, displaying a vulnerability that cannot be faked. This just solidified Wilder’s obvious passion for her art. Next came, ‘Cigarette’ – a near perfect pop song and has a chorus that will be going around in your head for days. It is clear why this was the first single to be released from Life’s a Bitch; it’s the kind of track that will get everyone talking. I loved how following ‘So 17’, ‘this track ‘Cigarette’ hit me fast and hard with its fast tempo and injected so much energy back into my mood. Wilder ended this track the only way she could with a track that showcased every weapon in her arsenal.
It’s daring to throw so many elements into a track and rarely works, but that is what she did with ‘Fear of the Fall’ and its paid off. Starting off calm and soulful building the a powerful crescendo was an absolute stroke a genius and shows an artistic awareness even some of the most experience musicians don’t have.
With Life’s a Bitch Wilder has established herself as a force to reckon with. She has captured the attention of my entire household, most of all my 8-year-old daughter. I’m just thankful that the future of music seems to be in good hands!
