Clinically Sane – Eternal Recurrence (2022)

The brainchild of Tiago Freitas, Clinically Sane is a musical project aiming to soothe the soul in its own rock-inspired way. Creating music with the aim of “talking openly about mental health and emotions that we all tend to bottle up…”, Clinically Sane is Freitas’s sonic representation of letting things go. As he puts it, “in the best-case scenario, I will help someone with my music. In the worst-case scenario, it will take a big weight off my shoulders.”

Despite being a newbie in the music scene, this Portuguese singer-songwriter is already turning heads on a global scale. With features in Roadie Metal, Edgar Allan Poets, Indie O Clock, and various playlists, Clinically Sane is making a splash on the musical blogosphere. Come with us as we delve into his debut single ‘Eternal Recurrence’.

The first single from his upcoming debut EP Tales of No One, ‘Eternal Recurrence’ is a harmonic melding of powerful guitars, smashing synths and pounding drums. From the first moment, Freitas tosses you into a sonic whirlpool of alternative rock flooded with a dark, raw and rough ambience. While the song is gruff and gritty, the bold vocal execution has a smoothness to sate any desperate emotions. Oddly enough, despite the soothing and warm quality of Freitas’s tones, there is a painful vulnerability pouring through the vocal execution.

Intimate, vulnerable and angsty, ‘Eternal Recurrence’ is a powerful alternative rock meets metal single. What I truly love is how Clinically Sane so elegantly explores human fragility within the hard-hitting rock arrangement. It’s like there is a delicacy in the complex sound that is both sophisticated and brutally innocent. Magic, pure magic.
