Clay Joule – Keep On (2023)

When we left singer-songwriter Clay Joule review-wise, Joule effortlessly expressed the emotional experiences of individuals in the Ukraine-Russia conflict with ‘O’Dream’. Always keen to tackle provocative issues in his music, Joule explores humanitarian crises, pet adoption (‘Nothing Like Loving You’) and the complexities of living in lockdown (‘REALM’). In his latest single, ‘Keep On’, the US-based artist tips his hat at empowerment, positivity and optimism. Come with us as we delve into this intriguing new single.

Following his country-tinged rock single ‘Crazy’ and the soulful ballad ‘Ricordi’, Clay Joule shifts to a vintage jazz sound with pop sentimentality in ‘Keep On’. Combining retro saxophone and piano with modern-day beats, Joule not only showcases his genre-diverse style but transcends decades in a sonic swoop. Beautifully textured, ‘Keep On’ has a hushed veil laid atop a soothing tune; however, the incorporation of the sax adds sassiness with a mischievous wink.

As with all of Joule’s singles, you can lose yourself in the tune, but it is the lyricism that adds a deeper level of intimacy. A song of heartfelt empowerment, Clay holds us close with his dulcet vocals keeping us safe; at the same time, his optimistic positivity pushes listeners to take control of their lives and enjoy each minute. Soothing and soft with a gentle cuddling feel, you become lost in ‘Keep On’. Bold and strong, ‘Keep On’ also urges you to fly beyond your boundaries and “keep on keeping on”.

Sincere, sentimental, honest and genuine, there is an intricate delicacy wavering through a sense of simplicity in ‘Keep On’.
