Class Vee – Weirdos (2023)
Beginning her singing career as part of the band Soltrio, Class Vee (Vee for short) proved her prowess as a songwriter and singer. Unfortunately, Soltrio disbanded in 2021 and instead of flailing about wondering what to do, Vee pushed on embracing a solo career. Hailing from Florida, the American singer-songwriter and producer has turned heads on an international level with her 2022 singles ‘IDK Why’ and ‘Where Do We Stand’ gaining critical acclaim. This is not our introduction to Class Vee having reviewed her single ‘Love Resides’ last year; however, with ‘Weirdos’ she showcases her versatility and innovation as an artist.
From 2022’s ‘Love Resides’ and the Latin single ‘Kissiera’, Class Vee presents an evolution in her sound over the past year. Beginning 2023 with ‘House Party’, Vee retains the upbeat pop vibes of ‘Kissiera’ and electropop collaborations ‘Illusions’ and ‘Bright Lights’. Yet, while the jovial pop wrapper exists, a sliver of soulful sophistication flutters through the high-paced ‘House Party’. With ‘Weirdos’, the honing of her style becomes even clearer inserting elements of RnB with hip-hop sensibilities – similar to her previous material but refreshingly new.
Appealing to modern-day audiences, a contemporary combination of bold beats and synth-driven firmly plant ‘Weirdos’ alongside acts like Shawn Mendes. The thing is, as much as it is filled with buoyant fun, a sensual slice of soul slips in through Vee’s vocals. Sitting somewhere between P!nk and Natasha Bedingfield, Class Vee captures the joviality of upbeat pop but captures hearts with rich RnB vocals. Tickling your nose and sending tingles of joy across your skin, ‘Weirdos’ is entertaining and engaging but hides a profoundness beneath the surface.
Created as a summer banger, Class Vee has an earworm of a song in ‘Weirdos’. Self-described as a “silly, family-friendly…” single, this is a song that can win your heart whether you are laying back with a cold beverage or stamping along at a music festival. Brave, bold and beautiful, I highly recommend Class Vee to everyone.
