Clark Graham – The Girl With Mountains In Her Eyes (2022)

With a reputation for engaging, endearing and entertaining performances, Canadian singer-songwriter Clark Graham has won the hearts of audiences in and far beyond North American borders. After honing his craft in the Vancouver music scene early in his career, Graham relocated to Los Angeles where his intriguing live shows earned him a resident figure at the folk venue The Hotel Café. Now, he is back in Canada and sharing his talents with the globe. One of the most recent additions to his discography is the single ‘The Girl With Mountains In Her Eyes’.

Described by the music blog Find No Enemy as “something special…”, Clark Graham has versatility, innovation and sheer natural talent as a musician. The opening track from his latest album Southlands, ‘The Girl With Mountains In Her Eyes’ is intimate, tender and really touches your heart from the first chord. We have all been intoxicated by new love, but the sensitivity of ‘The Girl With Mountains In Her Eyes’ takes one step further exploring the melancholic side of losing love. Graham explains that the song is “…inspired by the joy of love coming into your life and the regret of letting it slip through your hands. At its core, the lyrics talk about the sacrifice it takes in life to follow your dreams, and the personal cost that comes with pursuing your calling. Sometimes we can’t truly appreciate something or someone until it’s too late and they’re gone…”

Just as the lyricism is poetic, the melody of this new song seems to be as poetic and evocative. I would say there is a reminiscence to James Taylor and Bob Dylan, particularly regarding the intimate narrative; however, Clark Graham seems to weave a modern-day folk sound in the nostalgic track. Glistening with a shimmer of contemporary folk-pop, particularly near the end, Graham creates a sound that is purely Clark Graham. My one complaint is that it ended too quickly.
