Chucky Trading Co – Psychopath Cool (2022)

Since late 2021, the insatiable Chucky Trading Co has brought old-school folk-rock songs to the masses. A collaboration between singer-songwriter CS Taber and producer Everett Young, the lads take people’s breath away with each of their releases – or at least that’s our experience of their music. Based in the USA, Chucky Trading Co explores life, love and human nature in their profound songs. The latest addition to their well-received discography is the single ‘Psychopath Cool’.

I have mentioned in previous reviews that I may be a bit biased being a fan of Chucky Trading Co; however, the duo deserves each line of praise from curators across the globe. Following their toe-tapping track ‘What I Want’, ‘Psychopath Cool’ brings a folk-rock sound tinged with bluegrass and jazz. Combining piano, drums and interspersed bluegrass fiddle, ‘Psychopath Cool’ is also toe-tapping with an upbeat tone; however, the lyricism seems to be contrary to the sound. It is potentially this innovativeness and versatility that makes me love Chucky Trading Co.

Noted by CS Taber as a “song about a relationship with a moody, mercurial lover”, ‘Psychopath Cool’ has a sense of melancholy about it. Effortlessly spreading a smile across my face, the acoustic-inspired single can lighten your heart. The thing is Taber’s vocals contain a deeper sense of vulnerability emitting a sonic chill in the rich warmth. Bold, but with a sincere sensitivity and intense intimacy, Chucky Trading Co holds your heart in the palm of his hand leaving you gasping for breath in ‘Psychopath Cool’.
