Christopher Taylor – Everything To Me (2022)

Embracing his passion for music at a young age, singer-songwriter Christopher Taylor has been performing for decades. From local bands at youth clubs and church to receiving coverage on BBC Radio and winning awards, Taylor has gone from strength to strength as a professional musician. Described by Rockstar Blog as music for “those who are feeling lost”, UK-based Taylor is turning the heads of audiences and critics on an international scale. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Everything To Me’.

Following his well-received single ‘Ink’, Christopher Taylor blurs the lines between folk, pop and jazz in ‘Everything To Me’. Unlike ‘Ink’, the new single has a softer, more soothing quality inspired by warm, heartfelt sentiments highlighting Taylor’s innovativeness as an artist. As with his previous material, a nostalgic flair exists in ‘Everything To Me’ taking us back to the soft rock/pop sounds of the 80s and 90s – think Spandau Ballet meets James Taylor. Yet, while there is a strong throwback to the sounds of yesteryear, Taylor retains a modern folk-pop edginess placing him alongside the likes of James Blunt and The Lumineers.

While the melody can hold its own with a harmonic arrangement of guitars and drums, it is Christopher Taylor’s vocals that bring obscurity to ‘Everything To Me’. Gruff and rough, but with a rugged tenderness, Taylor soothes your soul with his dulcet voice. What I find particularly interesting is how the grittiness of the single is carefully balanced with warmth – and all through some soft vocal gymnastics.

Not one to try the same style twice, Christopher Taylor is open to all genres, styles and the music you find in the cracks of classification. The new track is not only inventive regarding melody, but it shows a profoundness as it “is about someone who is struggling with what’s going on around them, it seems there’s no escape…” Taylor ended 2022 with this gem of a song and I cannot wait to hear what he has in store for 2023.
