Christine Tarquinio – You And Me (2023)

Drawn to music at a young age – in fact, she remembers receiving a tape deck for Christmas when she was 5 years old – Christine Tarquinio picked up the guitar in primary school but only for a fleeting moment. Once she moved to Melbourne after high school, she was once again inspired to pick up the guitar, started singing and writing poetic songs. Skip ahead some years to 2014 and singer-songwriter Christine Tarquinio releases her debut single ‘Didn’t Even Try’. Skip ahead a few more years and Tarquinio is reaching audiences on an international level with critically acclaimed singles and the three-track EP, It’s Only Fair. Come with us as we look at her most recent release ‘You And Me’.

Following her well-received track ‘Falling Free’, ‘You And Me’ weaves together the poetic flair of folk and upbeat toe-tapping beats of pop in a mellifluous melody. Think of a Wilson Phillips meets Vanessa Carlton, and you’ll probably have an idea of where ‘You And Me’ lies. Tarquinio’s light vocals traipse across an elegant arrangement of guitars and percussion oozing warmth, comfort and a breath of refreshing joyfulness on any dreary day.

An avid collaborator with musicians, producers and sound engineers, Tarquinio often states that “there is nothing more satisfying than seeing a little seed of an idea I have for a song and seeing it bloom into its full potential along with my creative team…” The blooming of ‘You And Me’ came from the musical journey with producer Joshua Hennessy of Pivotal Music Melbourne. In his sensational arrangement, we find a sophisticated balance between organic and synthetic with bold electric guitars matching the acoustic percussion. Add Tarquinio’s inspiring vocals and you have a song to get you grinning.

Taken from her upcoming EP Silhouette, ‘You And Me’ is a musical letter penned in response to the challenges of the Covid-19 lockdowns. It “expresses a desire for normality and hope for a better future….to embrace optimism, unity and the strength of joining together…”
