Christa Lee – Fresh Linen (2024)

While she might have started releasing singles last year with only two tracks to her name, Christa Lee is captivating hearts across the globe. From Ireland to France, the UK and her native USA, Lee has been described as a gem appealing to people of all ages. A self-taught artist who began singing in her younger years, Lee’s passion for music oozes from her diverse material. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Fresh Linen’.

Following her well-received singles ‘Love Potion’ and ‘we don’t need to kiss’, Lee shifts from pop-inspired sounds to a more soulful tone in ‘Fresh Linen’. Her inspiration of One Direction flits through in ‘Love Potion’ and ‘we don’t need to kiss’, however, the new single steps away from commercial pop finding a line between Sade and Joss Stone. It is this way that she finds a balance between nostalgia and contemporary soul with a click of Meja’s alternative edge.

One aspect I find interesting in ‘Fresh Linen’ is the bold arrangement. Soothing synths create a foundation that lulls people into a comfortable haze; however, the vocals both complement and juxtapose the melody. Hushed tones shimmer across your skin with a breath of kaleidoscopic charm, but the vulnerability beneath has innocent whimsy and heartbreak (however slight it may be).

Known for her poetic lyricism and personal themes, Christa Lee evokes an intense intimacy in her singles. With ‘Fresh Linen’, she continues to resonate with listeners on a more profound scale. A reflective journey, ‘Fresh Linen’ explores the emotions behind lost love. Lee explains:

“If you’ve ever deliberately held onto a t-shirt from a former love, ‘Fresh Linen’ will resonate with you. The song exudes a breezing and uplifting vibe accompanied by metaphorical lyrics that explore the process of moving on from past relationships despite the lingering “stains” of love.”

So, in the end, what do I think of Christa Lee and her single ‘Fresh Linen’? Heartfelt, sincere and filled with introspective sentiment, ‘Fresh Linen’ is the theme song for overcoming that romantic yearning for a past relationship. Based on this and her previous material, Lee will emerge as a force to be reckoned with.
