Chris Lewington has been interested in music since he first picked up a guitar in his early teens. He started writing songs in his later teen years after listening to singer-songwriters like Leonard Cohen and Paul Simon. Over the years, he has been part of a few bands and only released his first solo album in 2018. He is now back with his latest single ‘The Man Who Saved the World’.
The inspiration and story of the song is Stanislav Petrov, the Russian colonel whose quick thinking averted disaster during the cold war. The song looks at what you would do if you only had 30 seconds to save the world as Petrov did.
‘The Man Who Saved The World’ opens with a very distinct 60s vibe to it. The melody has a playful undertone that is a bit at odds with the lyrics and theme of the track. There are moments throughout the song where the melody slows a little and this adds a little something to the track.
Lewington’s vocals are equally fun to listen to and carry the same vibe as the melody. The chorus is ridiculously catchy and will have you singing along in no time. If you do not know the story of Petrov, the lyrics lay everything out while adding a hint of urgency to the song.
