Child of SP – Halo (2024)

With an innovative ear, bold beats, and inimitable style, singer-songwriter Child of SP is a pioneer in the dark-pop music scene. Insatiable and intriguing, his sonic swirls have a hypnotic hold on listeners pushing you toward undefined and unseen realms. In his Spotify, Child of SP (also known as Leo) describes his sound as “…the forwarding of a movement, nothing other than that” declaring his passion for music across genres, eras and audiences. This is my introduction to Child of SP, but he began his journey several years ago doing covers and freestyling on social media in 2016; the rest is, as they say, history.

Hailing from Sao Paulo and raised in South Florida, Child of SP is the first Brazilian in his generation to stand out in the dark-pop world with unique eclecticism. Following the well-received singles ‘Last Days’ and ‘Out The Mud’, Child of SP’s new single ‘Halo’ is a melodic and lyrical exposition of society in its grit and glory.

Shifting from hip-hip-infused layers of alternative pop, ‘Halo’ is a more upbeat track than previous singles.  Retaining his unique blend of rap and electronic pop, Child of SP presents his signature style bringing a sound that is Child of SP and no one else. Yet, while the pulsating electronic beats are bold and brash, there is a flutter of hushed contemporary pop flooding an alternative pop soundscape.

Melodically, ‘Halo’ taps into the depths of humanity with a vibrant expression of torment and tragedy; however, and this is so well developed in the push-and-pull nature of ‘Halo’, a fiery forcefulness dwells within reality’s complexity. Exploring themes of societal expectations, perspectives, lies and facades, ‘Halo’ confronts the contrast between what we try to portray and our inner truth. The halo is bright and striking when we begin, but as the day dims its shining light darkens exposing hypocrisy, lies and despair.

In addition to the single, Child of SP released an official music video for ‘Halo’. You can view it below or on his YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger migraines and/or seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
