Charlotte Lansman – Lost (2021)

Laying elegant poetry over moving melodies, Charlotte Lansman effortlessly pulls you into a beautiful swirl of sound. Quite a new artist on the scene, Lansman made her debut in late 2020; however, she is already making heads turn on a global level. Featured in Nexus Music Blog, A&R Factory, She Makes Music and several online radio stations, her music speaks for itself. The latest addition to her repertoire is the single ‘Lost’.

Produced with Joe Rodwell, ‘Lost’ is a well-arranged and beautifully textured single. Elegantly melding guitars, drums, piano and a horn section (I’m assuming trumpets and a sax), the instrumentation creates a smooth foundation for Lansman’s vocals. While the melody has an individuality, ‘Lost’ gains more personality with the harmonic fusion of the velvety voice and jazz-inspired instrumentation.

I adore Lansman’s sound, not only because it has a beguiling flow, but because her songs have a sophisticated silkiness. Touching on summer love, ‘Lost’ is a sonic representation of the overwhelming emotions one can feel. You live for moments with each other. You think of no-one and nothing else. You change and feel absolute bliss. Unfortunately, summer love never lasts – think about Danny and Sandy in Grease.

Yes, there is a sensuality in ‘Lost’ but Lansman’s dulcet vocals enhance the sadness of losing those magical moments. The decadent single teeters between melancholic nostalgia and joyful memories of days long gone. Add Lansman’s distinct jazz-soul sound and you have a winner!
