Charlotte Hall – This Love (2022)
From her intimate single ‘The Wolves’ to her feel-good pop song ‘Squeeze’ and indie-rock track ‘Telepathy’, we have followed singer-songwriter Charlotte Hall closely. Obscure, eclectic and unique, Hall brings her haunting vocals to audiences across the globe. Featured not only on The Other Side Reviews, Hall has also found herself on RGM, Rising Artists Blog, Sinusoidal Music, Less Than 1000 Followers, and various other press (including BBC Radio 1). The latest addition to her intriguing repertoire is the single ‘This Love’.
Once again collaborating with producer Tom Orrell, ‘This Love’ adopts an indie-folk slant with an acoustic flavour to the arrangement. I would say there are similarities to Mumford and Sons and Damien Rice, but neither of those artists has the elegance of Charlotte Hall’s voice. Soft, soothing and charming, the simplistic melody slithers into your soul and sends tingles down your arms – but the good kind. Incorporating a violin and cello into the arrangement enhances its obscurity, as well as complementing Hall’s ethereal vocals.
In August 2022, UK-based Charlotte posted an Instagram post saying, “I’m not one for writing love songs in all honesty; I find it much easier to write about heartbreak and scumbags” – ‘This Love’ has a bit of a different theme. Instead of writing about toxic relationships, the new track touches on pursuing your dreams, leaving the monotony of daily life and growing in your relationship empowered and determined. Sadly, that ship sailed for Hall, but she hopes to experience it again – as we all do.
“’This Love’ is a song of dedication to the partner of a singer-songwriter who hopes to break through with her music. Together they hope to see the world, grow together as a couple…Unfortunately, that ship sailed, and nothing was going to happen with them, but it was the first time I loved someone for them rather than the idea of being in love…” – Charlotte Hall on ‘This Love’
