The single also touches on the daring challenge of questioning your inner demons and coming out positively on the other end.
The song started as a guitar riff and a conversation with Claire-Ann Varley from the band Varley. Grant’s passion for music is clear in the single and one of the reasons why he has been steadily building a fanbase since releasing his own music in 2016. He is also a member of More Than Ruins and Spirit Animal Kollektiv.
‘Whatever Your Heart Desires’ draws you in with a light acoustic guitar strumming an almost melancholic tone. The melody of the track is relatively minimalistic at the start with the acoustic guitar, but there is this electric guitar that makes itself know in the background. It slices through the lower levels of the melody to grab your attention before running away again. This is an interesting melodic device that works well with the message of the track.
The minimal melody bolsters Grant’s vocals as they shine powerfully and set the tone of the track. His smooth performance draws you into the realisation that you are causing the hurdles that stop you from achieving your own goals. The atmospheric backings vocals from Varley just adds a little something to the chorus. Through the flow of Grant’s vocal performance, your eyes are opened to the inner demons that you might have overlooked and given the strength to fight them and allow positive things to happen.
