Channel 37 – Little Miss War Machine (2025)
With their “…flair for the theatrical and an air of flamboyance…”, duo Channel 37 simultaneously hits you between the eyes and carries you off in a warm embrace with their pop-punk music. Channelling (no pun intended) the sounds of old-school pop-punk – when everything was straightforward and simple – US-based Matty and Erica pull nostalgia and contemporariness together elegantly woven in a few minutes of music. While this is our first time listening to Channel 37, the pair have been turning heads for several years reaching far beyond their North American borders. From 2022’s ‘Game Over’ to 2023’s ‘lowercase kid’ and 2025’s ‘There Goes The Neighborhood’, the pair astonish with intriguing attitudes. Join us as we delve into their latest release, ‘Little Miss War Machine’.
Following the well-received singles, ‘There Goes The Neighborhood’ and ‘Stay Or Go (‘Til Death 2025 Remix)’, ‘Little Miss War Machine’ engulfs listeners in a slick of pop-punk meets pop-rock circa 1990s/2000s. Not merely a glimpse at yesteryear, but a vivid sonic experience drags me back to Blink 182, Weezer, and even CrashCarBurn back when they were Tweak. Bright and bouncy simmering in a hard-hitting blend of boisterous pop-rock with rebellious punk lingering in the musical concoction.
While the crashing drums, soaring guitar, bold bass, and gritty vocals ooze a sense of urgency, there is a harmonic fusion of each individual element. Abrupt and brash, each demands prominence; however, the unlikely soothing of pop-punk demands everything work in harmony. Duality from beginning to end, and I personally love the off-kilter, sing-along, mosh-pit anthem in all its glittering glory. So, step aside everything on my personal playlist because there’s a new, very welcoming contender in ‘Little Miss War Machine’.
