Cat Cork – Promise Me (2024)

Using a nostalgic weaving of old-school genres, singer-songwriter Cat Cork effortlessly takes listeners back to the folk days of yesteryear. Capturing the poignancy of songwriters like James Taylor, there is a mesmerising profoundness in his music. About a year ago, we took a gander at the Australia-based artist’s single ‘Disappear’. Join us as we delve into the new track, ‘Promise Me’.

Following his well-received 2024 album, Silver and Gold, ‘Promise Me’ is the first of several songs to be released throughout 2025. Constantly embracing deeper insight through his melodies, ‘Promise Me’ is a turning point for Cat Cork inspired by “…some wisdom gained through a long and eventful 2024.” Moreover, as the new stuff leans on the learned, it is intended to “capture positive thinking mood” with a lighter, brighter, and more optimistic tone as compared to Silver and Gold’s darker tracks.

A collaboration of international musical minds, ‘Promise Me’ is a remote concoction of artists across the globe. Recorded in his home studio, Cat Cork (vocals and guitar) is joined by long-time producer Cameron Taylor, bassist Pablo Arruda, drummer Chris Barber, drummer Horacio Paris, cellist Ben Trigg, and percussionist Joao Paulo Drumond. Unlike the alternative pop ‘Disappear’ and heavier ‘Silver and Gold’, ‘Promise Me’ is a sweet song with uplifting vibes. For me, however, there is an intricacy that makes it highly intriguing.

Simplicity oozes from the depths of a kaleidoscopic soundscape as the instruments wind about Cat Cork’s dulcet vocals. Drums pulsate through the melody, while a bold bass lingers in the back; mellifluous guitar binds with shimmering percussion; and all this coming together in a twirl of sound clinging to the clarity of innocent folk. One aspect that truly touches my heart is the cello. Warm and vibrant, but simultaneously delicate and fragile.

Sincere, tender and heartfelt, Cat Cork brings a ray of hope to a new year with ‘Promise Me’.

In addition to the single, Cat Cork released an official music video for ‘Promise Me’. You can view the video below or on his YouTube channel.
