Cassidy Dickens – Deep End (2023)

Since the time she first heard Garth Brooks’ single ‘Lonesome Dove’, Cassidy Dickens began her musical journey. She was only four years old at the time and her father helped her understand the intricacies of ‘Lonesome Dove’, but a little spark set alight a passionate flame in her heart that day. For the past ten years, the US-based singer-songwriter has released numerous singles, two full-length albums, and toured across the USA taking her sound to the masses. In addition to the following within her North American borders, Dickens has also turned heads on an international scale with features in various publications (Rising Artists Blog, Sinusoidal Music) and playlists.

Following her well-received single ‘All I’m Missing’, Cassidy Dickens treats us once again to a strong country song with some indie-folk stylings in ‘Deep End’. Soft and soothing, there is an emotional intimacy about ‘Deep End’ that often accompanies vintage country. The Nashville twang comes through in Dickens’ heartfelt vocals but something far more modern lurks beneath the surface.

Recorded with producer Sean Giovanni at The Record Shop, Dickens’ new single draws together the musical stylings of vocalist Leah Colon and multi-instrumentalist Jason Roller in ‘Deep End’. An acoustic single, rolling guitars enhance the mellifluous nature of the song as Dickens’ vocals traipse across the flowing melody. Interestingly, while there is a softness in this gentle ballad, the theme is far more intense than this laidback track suggests.

Touching on the complex emotions associated with falling in love, Dickens takes us on a push-and-pull journey looking at the highs and lows of heady romance. It’s intriguing because ‘Deep End’ is smooth and one of those tracks you play in the background; however, a kaleidoscopic rollercoaster exists at the core of the single sparking wistful rays of sonic light.

“I’ve always envisioned falling in love like falling backwards into a pool. ‘Deep End’ is about that feeling of closing your eyes, knowing it’s entirely possible you could slip and get hurt, but choosing to let yourself go anyway…and that shock of feeling utterly alive that comes when we hit the water.” – Cassidy Dickens on ‘Deep End’
