Casey Wells – Moving On (2022)

If Tame Impala were to have a child with Cage The Elephant, the chances are it would be Casey Wells. Finding that line between indie-pop and indie-rock, but with a distinctive pop flair, US-based Wells is evolving progressive pop in his own way. Described by Sinusoidal Music as “infectious”, it seems we are not the only ones getting his songs stuck in our heads. In fact, he is turning heads across the globe with features on Obscure Sound, News Break, El Descafienado and various playlists. The latest addition to his discography is ‘Moving On’.

Following his single ‘Side of Me’, Wells adopts a smooth, soothing tone in ‘Moving On’. Bringing a sense of dream-pop to the sound, Wells incorporates synths to the guitar-led song that has a nostalgic sentimentality within a contemporary style. Unlike ‘Side of Me’, ‘Moving On’ is more simplistic with a soft haziness in the cinematic soundscape. Interestingly enough, while there is an underlying minimalism, a kaleidoscopic sensibility engulfs and sends your soul soaring.

Recorded, arranged and produced by Wells, ‘Moving On’ is an impressive example of true catharsis – he just threw himself into the song and brings you along for the expressive ride. A mild melancholy can be heard in his dulcet tones as Wells explains that ‘Moving On’ “is a song from the perspective of someone who feels left behind…” Yet, in the same breath, there is an empowerment and optimism woven through the song – Wells adds that “…although [there are] glimpses of hope and acceptance throughout.”

Intimate, powerful and soul-touching, multi-instrumentalist Casey Wells shares his vulnerable tune ‘Moving On’. Quick note: This infectious single is part of his upcoming debut album Impermanence, set for release in 2023.
