Carson Ferris – FOMO (2024)
At only 14 years of age, one wouldn’t consider Carson Ferris to be too knowledgeable on the lay of the land that is life; how wrong you would be. He might not have a driving license or be of legal drinking age, but he has his head screwed on straight… a lot straighter than many adults I know. Living in a challenging society, life is filled with confusion and there are some ways to walk amidst the mire – it’s all about priorities. Ferris explores the world of priorities in his new single ‘FOMO’.
Following his well-received single ‘Ghosts’, Ferris continues to share his opinions, thoughts and deeper understanding of existential issues in ‘FOMO’. While ‘Ghosts’ tapped into the significance of acceptance, growth and “moving on as the only way things can be ok…”, ‘FOMO’ takes an overall perspective of self-discovery, self-understanding, and paving the road to success. Ferris explains:
“’FOMO’ is a song about the fear of missing out. It’s a song about priorities, making decisions, and figuring out what matters most to you and choosing that, even if it means missing out on other times. This can apply to a lot of things, but what I specifically wrote ‘FOMO’ about is choosing to do music instead of being a normal teenager. We all come across hard decisions in our lives that will lead to missing out on something.”
Recorded and produced with regular collaborator MYKYL, Ferris adds another slick of pop music to his growing discography. Unlike ‘Ghosts’ which twinkled with electronic shimmers of synth-driven sounds, ‘FOMO’ steps toward a heavier rock tone within an upbeat contemporary pop tone. Leaning toward Ed Sheeran but with the boldness of Imagine Dragons, there is a familiarity to ‘FOMO’. Yet, just as the similarities exist, so does an evolving distinction between Ferris and his colleagues. Amidst the crashing drums and soaring guitars of ‘FOMO’, the sweet richness of Carson Ferris’ warm vocals teem with youthful innocence lost in poignant maturity.
