Caroline Romano – Girl In A China Shop

When somebody mentions Nashville as a residence for a singer, of course, the first thing that comes to mind is country music or some form of Americana or other. Yet, there’s so much other music coming out of Nashville, something that makes it suitable to call it the “music capital”. Singer-songwriter Caroline Romano is one of those artists who seem to shy away from country/Americana and try to situate her music elsewhere. Her latest single, ‘Girl in a China Shop’, is here to show us why. It is a combination of loud and quiet (or, actually, vice versa), with Romano taking a more pop-rock route to express herself.

With the fact that Romano is just 22 years old, ‘Girl In A China Shop’ is a great song showing some sophisticated maturity in her songwriting and performance. Romano explains:

“I often feel like I break everything I touch. I’ve come to view myself as one major juxtaposition. One thing I’ve learned is that as life moves on, things get broken in the process. Whether it’s relationships or my own heart, I’ve come to realise that it’s all too easy to shatter either one by my own hand. At times it’s left me feeling uncomfortable in my own skin and with my own footing. “Girl In A China Shop’ is my attempt at acknowledging that, in a way that summarises the chaotic feeling that is navigating myself and other’s emotions.”

Romano burst on the scene in 2022 with her debut album Oddities and Prodigies and then followed it up with a 2023 EP, A Brief Epic. Now, with this latest single, Romano is set to follow up the millions of streams she has already garnered with probably a few other millions. Judging by this single, deserved ones. Not exactly a single to be missed with Romano having a bright future in music.
