Carlos Ucedda – Isla Paraiso (2024)
Since the release of his single ‘Thinking about my love’ in 2022, singer-songwriter Carlos Ucedda has enchanted audiences with his vibrant melodies. From the kaleidoscopic sheen of his silky vocals to the shimmering twirl of colours in the melodic arrangements, Spanish artist Ucedda offers a soul-stirring haze of music. We first came across Ucedda a few months ago with the critically acclaimed track ‘At The Bottom’, quickly becoming ardent fans. Today, we take another step into his discography with the single ‘Isla Paraiso’.
Following the well-received ‘Secret Relief’, ‘Isla Paraiso’ is another taste of Ucedda’s unique sound. In ‘Secret Relief’, there was a darker wave of indie-pop slithering alongside alternative rock with shivers of hard rock; however, ‘Isla Paraiso’ slips to a lighter, bolder, pop-induced tone. Influenced by the likes of Latin pop artists Marc Antony and Tino Casal, the track embraces audiences with a decadent rush of sultry pop. Yet, an avant-garde sentimentality adds a heavier edge oscillating between dark and light.
Filled with synths and bold beats, an electronic pulse harkens in the background acting like a heartbeat. Interestingly, this is merely a hushed veil in the melody with Ucedda’s powerful vocals taking centre stage. Rich and full-bodied, his voice remains subdued but is laced with ferocity. Teeming with confidence, Ucedda’s voice inspires celebration… then again, a vulnerable delicacy lingers in the yearning execution.
Melodically, ‘Isla Paraiso’ is complex with intricate layers of emotion; however, the theme is far more simplistic. ‘Isla Paraiso’ is, basically, about enjoying life, having fun and embracing the moment with zeal. Translated from Spanish, Ucedda explains:
“This song is about having a hobby, basically at any time, and it doesn’t matter what season of the year. If we talk about a summer pastime, everything changes regarding fun (the sea, sun, light, dancing, parties, friends…). The essence of all this is reflected in my latest work ‘Isla Paraiso’.
