Carlos Ucedda – Inflatable e-Doll (Part One) (2025)

Amidst the various artists we cover on The Other Side Reviews, there are a few that stand out in the crowd with a bright, glowing blast of “you will remember me”; Carlos Ucedda is one of these musicians. An intriguing alternative pop artist, he has graced our virtual pages a few times over the years, but it is his constant evolution that astounds me. Instead of finding a tried-and-tested sound, there is a pivotal change in each melody while retaining a distinctive Ucedda style. Moreover, his songs delve into obscure, complex, and dare we say provocative themes adding profoundness to the already weighty songs. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Inflatable e-Doll (Part One)’.

Following his well-received single ‘Garden of Letters’, ‘Inflatable e-Doll (Part One)’ is a bold expression of the charming personae we have come to love, but the track simultaneously shows another facet of Carlos Ucedda’s personality. Self-recorded and produced, ‘Inflatable e-Doll’ is a journey through synth-pop with its synth-driven melody. Then again, as much as the melody is light and smile-inducing in the glittering synths, a hit of darker alternative rock appears to linger in the undergrowth.

With a nostalgic nod to the 1980s synth-pop sounds, wistful memories of yesteryear ooze from ‘Inflatable e-Doll (Part One)’ but the bouncing pop bop is marked by something sinister (enter the glints of dark rock). In his obscurity and eccentricity, ‘Inflatable e-Doll (Part One)’ is a melodic rollercoaster oscillating from bold highs to tragic lows. The thing is, as intriguing as the tune is, the theme and lyricism are what sets a simple pop tune into provocative and profound. Carlos Ucedda explains:

“’Inflatable e-Doll’ is about Agalmatophilia. Agalmatophilia is a paraphilia that consists of feeling sexual desire for a statue, doll, mannequin or other similar figurative object… It is a passage through the heights, a sensual plane trip.”
