Carl Kammeyer – One (2023)

With an aim to connect and resonate with audiences in a soothing but intensely intimate way, singer-songwriter Carl Kammeyer intoxicates listeners with his powerful tunes. Rich vocals melded with warm instrumentation, it is easy to listen to Kammeyer’s songs; however, they are also thought-provoking and profound. This is my introduction to Kammeyer, but he has turned heads across the globe being described as a passionate musician who sings directly from the heart. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘One’.

Following his single ‘Love Conquers All’, ‘One’ is a collaborative project with Texas-based artist Ossico (also known as Luke Stephen Beyer). Blending electronic sounds with live instruments in his production, Ossico’s tunes have that “studio band” appeal while retaining an ambient intensity through electronic-driven beats. He elegantly boasts this flair in production in his collaboration with Carl Kammeyer.

Potentially labelled an “electropop meets pop” single, ‘One’ has the toe-tapping sensation of contemporary pop but with pulsating beats driving the melody. Kaleidoscopic in its arrangement, the probing beats are infiltrated by a classic guitar with slithers of synths travelling across. Slight tinges of indie-pop dip in here and there bringing a bit of an edge to the melody. Yet, it is the rich vocals of Kammeyer that soothes this savage arrangement in a warm, bold embrace.

Influenced by his mother and his family who “started me on this musical journey when I was a kid”, ‘One’ is a song of unity. It explores the powerful connection within a family network and how these bonds offer a feeling of security, protection and love.
