Camille Rose – Deepest Regret (2023)

At only 21 years of age, singer-songwriter Camille Rose has worked with multi-platinum award-winning producer Narada Michael Walden, trained with vocal coach Lynn Asher, performs regularly at iconic venues like The Viper Room and House of Blues, and all before her 21st birthday. Not only does she have a reputation for powerful, energetic, hard-hitting shows, but her music is reaching international audiences with coverage on various playlists, blogs and radio stations.

Emotional and personal, Camille Rose’s songs touch on themes like relationships, self-discovery, growth, frustration, and all the gritty areas that we don’t like seeing. In 2019, she released her debut single ‘Over It’ followed by ‘Forget My Name’ in 2021. Earlier this year, she returned after two years away from the scene (give or take) with the stunning ‘Liability’. Today we’re taking a gander at her powerful song ‘Deepest Regret’.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, particularly when it comes to relationships; however, it is not always pleasant when you think of all those “why the hell did I even consider that and waste all my time on an absolute (insert crude word here)”. Along with ‘Liability’, ‘Deepest Regret’ has Rose exploring the painful, heartbreaking end of a relationship, but banging your head on the wall for being such an idiot. Produced, engineered and co-written with award-winning singer-songwriter Christopher Kenji, it’s a sonic expression of screaming frustration.

Tapping into her inner No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani, ‘Deepest Regret’ has powerhouse vocals melded into a heart-pounding pop-rock blast of music. What I find intriguing is how the pounding drums and crashing guitars are kaleidoscopic but there is a slight sparseness in the arrangement. Crashing guitars are present at intervals along with drums pounding as an independent entity giving each instrument prominence. Punctured by Rose’s brash vocals, the bass connects everything as she pierces the bubble within those empty intervals. In the end, however, everything comes together in a harmonic swoosh of angst, energy and heart-stopping insanity.

The sonic expression of complete frustration and anger at what seemed like a good idea at the time, ‘Deepest Regret’ is a song to scream to but also commiserate. One thing is for certain, she won’t be spending time with a pointless lover any time soon.

“…it’s hard to not let this song in and influence you to passionately belt your heart out and simultaneously hate your ex.” – Camille Rose on ‘Deepest Regret’
