C-Beem – Angel Hill (2020)

C-Beem used happy synths and engaging vocals to get us into the metaphor driven ‘Tumbleweed in Tinseltown’. Following his last sci-fi tinged single ‘Ed Straker Future’, his new release ‘Angel Hill’ brings listeners back to earth. While offering a more grounded sound, he keeps us moving through bittersweet clouds.

The track takes a look at the bittersweet feelings associated with unrequited love. The infatuation and longing felt as a consequence of this swirl to life through the mixture of pop and new wave sounds. With a dash of dream pop, C-Beem has you riding through the atmosphere and skimming emotional clouds.

‘Angel Hill’ opens with rich synths and echoing vocals that offer a nebulous feeling to the music. The synths have a touch of 80s within them while the underlying beats bring a modern flow. The beats forming the base of the melody bring you closer to the ground while the synths look to pull you higher and higher into the stratosphere. There is a light pulsing to the melody that meets the beats perfectly. The keyboard solo later in the single hits all the right notes.

As the synths form the cloud of bittersweet feelings, it is C-Beem’s vocals that lead you into them. His performance continues the 80s edge while wafting feelings of unrequited affection through you. His delivery has a questioning tone that turns into something a little more aggressive as the negative feelings of requited love come to the fore. As with ‘Tumbleweed in Tinseltown’, the lyrics have a different edge than the melody making the single an intriguing listening experience.

C-Beem brings you closer to earth while turning your eyes to the bittersweet clouds of unrequited love with ‘Angel Hill’. Rich synths form the clouds of the hill and bring an 80s synth vibe to the music. His performance unerringly leads you through the negative emotions of unrequited love with lyrics at odds with the floating melody.
