Bruno Muerte – Computers on Parade (2022)

There are times when you just need to embrace the quirky and unstable parts of the world, in order to let loose and relax. This is made easy by techno duo, Bruno Muerte, through their single ‘Computers on Parade’. Tapping into a moment in history, the glitchy, new wave single considers the July 1987 East German celebration of Berlin’s 750th birthday with a parade of desktop computers on wheels making their way past happy crowds.

Drawing on this rather strange visual, the duo bring unpredictable synths to glitching guitars and quirky beats. Contrasting innovation with traditionalism, this single is quite different to anything else out there, highlighting the unique nature of the band’s musicality. Stefano and Nigel, the duo behind the music, create a truly interesting sound that brings the avant-garde in all its glory to our ears.

‘Computers on Parade’s’ shivering electronic tones make their way into the opening of the track. These tones meet a tapping beat that forms the foundation of the single, leading you into the quirkier moments of the track. Over these beats, a jangle of notes pluck and shimmer through the soundscape. There is a feeling that the music is all leading up to something and this all comes to a head in a blast of tones. It is like an explosion of sound that strangely retains its melodic flow. Through the lines of the melody, you can feel the interplay between futurist notes and more traditional flows. This captures the essence of the moment that inspired the single.

While there is a rather avant-garde movement to the music, there is a clear melodic flow resting in the lower levels that keeps you hooked. The unpredictable synths burst into life, only to retreat in the face of the glitching guitars. It is a wonderful rise and fall that sweeps through your senses and has you embracing the truly unique soundscape. As the melody packs in the guitars and synths, there are moments of rock that shine through and leave you reeling from their energetic pushes. Each time you listen to this track, you are hit with new melodic elements that further the rich tapestry of sound. This makes it a single that you can listen to again and again, without ever getting tired of it.

Balancing traditional tones with futuristic bursts, Bruno Muerte pump energy into your veins, while tossing you into the quirky rollercoaster of their eclectic sound in ‘Computers on Parade’. The instrumental single is one that you need to listen to because it captures the essence of avant-garde techno rock with a strangely melodic movement. The glitching guitars, unstable synths and pumping energy cover an array of notes that shine differently each time you listen.
