Brother Sea – Royal Parade (2020)

Described as Fleetwood Mac raised on a pirate ship by Ed Leigh of BBC TV, the Celtic-rock band brings together dynamic instrumentation, impassioned vocals and engaging lyricism in a unique manner. Bringing together the skills of duo Harbottle & Jonas, vocalist Annie Baylis, cellist Calum Ingram, drummer Henry Cavender and songwriters Richard Tretheway and Kris Lannen, UK-based Brother Sea is breeding a new type of folk-rock for the masses. One of the latest singles from the group is the single ‘Royal Parade’.

Flowing, melodic, soothing and harmonic, Brother Sea exudes calm in their languid sound. Reminiscent of The Corrs, the group fuses classic orchestral sounds with rural percussion effortlessly creating a swirling soundscape for the listener. Hazy ambiences drag a listener into a comfortable blanket; however, it is the well-texted haunting vocals that adds the beguiling factor.

Highly reminiscent of folk singer Enya, Brother Sea’s ‘Royal Parade’ is kaleidoscopic with ethereal vocals. Touching on issues of innocence, vulnerability and fragility during this uncertain time, Freya Harbottle’s voice expertly traverses the melody like a bright thread pulsating below a gossamer blanket. The flowing song already moves one to tears, but it is the soul-stirring vocals that leave one with goosebumps and shivers down your spine.

“We hope this song serves as an encouragement to watch for the goodness of light. For the small, gentle glow of a flame that flickers in the darkness whatever the light may mean for you and wherever it may be found…” – Brother Sea on ‘Royal Parade’
