Brother Dynamite – Radio Silence (2025)
With a roaring passion for music burning in their breasts – not literally, of course – US-based Shawn Moynihan and Alan Miller sprinkle magical sonic fairy dust on listeners with exuberant melodies. Having composed and created music since high school, the duo are experienced; however, each track boasts sophistication with a sheen of raw intimacy blending rambunctious youthfulness with elegant maturity. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Radio Silence’.
We came across Brother Dynamite last year with the critically acclaimed single ‘The Girl’s In Love’ where the pair breathed life into 90s power-pop with a modern-day new-ness; and ‘Radio Silence’ takes the same route. A vintage pop-rock/power-pop sound washes over listeners with each crashing wave of music taking you on a journey through the 1990s. For me, a hint of The New Radicals weaves through ‘Radio Silence’, but the rich vocals are inimitable offering a lilt of uniqueness in the reams of pop-rock.
Self-produced and recorded, Brother Dynamite adopts a DIY approach to ‘Radio Silence’, and you can feel the love poured into each note. Crashing drums meet soaring guitars with a bold bass beating in the background – every sound contributing to the retro symphony. Interestingly, while the different instruments unite in harmony, individuality exists demanding you pay attention to each element in its entirety.
A moving melody which can leave you twirling about with a stupid smile on your face, ‘Radio Silence’ is an earworm; however, weightiness lies in the theme and lyricism. With words like “Is anyone listening anymore?” and “…count me in”, ‘Radio Silence’ is an anthem for resilience and strength in a world of uncertainty and despair.
Like I said, this is not our introduction to Brother Dynamite, but even though we’ve heard their stuff before and delved into all they have to offer, ‘Radio Silence’ is new, refreshing, and has you stand up with a “wow, this is fantastic… why didn’t I check them out before?”
