Bromsen – We! (2023)
Described by independent press as “…dynamic and engaging…” (Skylight Webzine), “…an enthralling journey full of melodic sounds…” (Sounds Good Webzine), “…an immersive experience that is both raw and psychedelic…” (Illustrate Magazine), German duo Bromsen is turning heads on a global scale. Entering the music scene as members of the band the pampelmuse, Richard and Karlo were on the brink of a musical breakthrough, however, the pampelmuse disbanded in 2006 without hitting that rumoured breakthrough. Yet, while the band disappeared, Richard and Karlo remained friends reconnecting and forming Bromsen in 2021.
With only three singles under their belt, we could consider Bromsen newbies to the indie scene, but their previous industry experience can probably name them as veteran musicians. Using their knowledge of recording and production, Richard and Karlo can produce sophisticated tracks; however, there is a gritty rawness slathered over the Bromsen melodies bringing obscurity to the songs. The latest addition to Bromsen’s repertoire is the single ‘We!’
Following the well-received single ‘The Photograph’, Richard and Karlo fuse the ruggedness of indie-rock with the brashness of synth-driven electropop in ‘We!’. A leaning toward Pet Shop Boys can be heard but this underlies the bold rock guitars and pounding drums on the track. Completely authentic and original, ‘We!’ can satisfy audiences as a dance-inducing rave anthem with hard-hitting foot-stomping rock tones.
While the melody can hold its own with an intriguing obscurity flowing through the tune, it is the lyricism that adds an endearing quality to ‘We!’. Celebrating their long-time friendship, ‘We!’ touches on the impact such a deep connection can have on people. Karlo explains that “such a deep and long-standing friendship can carry you through a period of weakness and often you emerge even stronger afterwards feeling free like a bird…who wants to fly higher and higher…”
