Bromsen – Read About It (2023)

When we last heard from Karlo and Richard Bromsen, they were celebrating their long-time friendship in the single ‘We!’. With an endearing quality to the synth-pop meets indie-rock track, ‘We!’ found a balance between foot-stomping mosh pits and energetic rave dancefloors. In their latest track ‘Read About It’, Bromsen once again celebrates the impact of deep connections…but not necessarily as a tangible friendship to cherish.

Based in Berlin, Bromsen finds themselves in a melting pot of music ranging from heavy death metal to high-energy EDM, but they prefer to be influenced by the music they have heard, the books they have read, and the experiences they have experienced. In ‘Read About It’, the German duo pays tribute to masterful musicians who dedicated themselves to their art, lived it and left behind their influential tales.

“The inspiration behind the song lies in the artists who wholeheartedly dedicated themselves to their craft and lived their art. They created incredible music and art, yet often faced personal struggles. Regrettably, they are no longer with us, leaving behind their music and stories for us to cherish and learn from. Alongside renowned figures like Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain…the song pays tribute to lesser-known artists who met a similar fate.” – Bromsen on ‘Read About It’

Taken from their upcoming album, Brothers In Mind, ‘Read About It’ retains the unique obscurity of 80s synth-pop with electronic tinges. Yet, just as the song is nostalgic in its synth-driven flair, Bromsen brings another edge to their “indietronica” style.

Opening with a reminiscence to Pet Shop Boys, I can imagine the lads riding along a smooth, bright wave of synths. The twist comes when a shift to rough, rugged rock style slivers in with pounding drums and a crashing guitar. The interesting and highly intriguing thing is how the transition is so easily executed – one moment you’re twirling on a kaleidoscopic dancefloor and the next you’re losing yourself in a grungy whirlpool.

In addition to the single, Bromsen released an official music video for ‘Read About It’. You can view the video below or via their YouTube channel.
