Brick Blair – Two Dollar Coat (2022)
Influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Cat Stevens and John Prine, singer-songwriter Brick Blair brings a rock edginess to old-school folk. With his flowing sound, US-based Blair has turned heads at Rising Artists Blog, Sinusoidal Music, YMX, FV Music Blog, Flex Music Blog, and many more. Blasting into the blogosphere, and on playlists, he is captivating audiences across the globe. The latest addition to his critically acclaimed discography is ‘Two Dollar Coat’.
Following his single ‘On The Zooms’, ‘Two Dollar Coat’ is smooth, laidback and easy to listen to. In line with iconic folk artists like Cat Stevens and Bob Dylan, there is an intense intimacy in the simplistic soundscape. An acoustic-inspired single, ‘Two Dollar Coat’ highlights the beauty of minimalistic arrangements with only an acoustic guitar and Blair’s rich vocals. Oddly enough, while the melody is minimalistic, it appears to have a kaleidoscopic quality tipping you into a multi-coloured swirl of sound.
Taken from his upcoming EP Widow & Orphan, ‘Two Dollar Coat’ has a haunting and slightly ethereal effect on the listener. Produced with Robert Farren at RFL Studios in Brooklyn, the single elegantly captures Blair’s emotions in its tender warmth. A warm song, but filled with melancholy and vulnerability, ‘Two Dollar Coat’ finds the line between sincerity and desperation. The gruff vocals are rich and bold but still have hints of human fragility in the tone.
“’Two Dollar Coat’ is a musical projection into a reality where I am homeless, alone, and nullifying myself through drug addiction. I wrote it during a stark period where each day I faced decisions that would move me nearer or farther from that fate…” – Brick Blair on ‘Two Dollar Coat’
In addition to the single, Brick Blair released an official music video for ‘Two Dollar Coat’. You can view the video below or on Blair’s Youtube Channel.
