Brian Wolff – Leave The Lights On (2025)

Take a dash of Kings of Leon, a slice of The Strokes, and a hearty dose of Bruce Springsteen – this is what to expect from Brian Wolff & The Howlers. Hailing from the USA, singer-songwriter Wolff and his band are known for “…big guitars and impactful rhythms complete with thoughtful, introspective and unique lyrics…”, easily intoxicating audiences with their songs. Now, you don’t have to be at one of their live shows to feel the energy of Brian Wolff & The Howler; hell no, each melody oozes raw emotion and passion, even if you’re listening on another continent. The latest addition to Wolff’s discography is the single, ‘Leave The Lights On’.

Following the well-received 2023 EP, The Golden Age, ‘Leave The Lights On’ is the title track off their debut EP (set for release in August). Joined by renowned producer Chris “Frenchie” Smith, ‘Leave The Lights On’ is a glimmering concoction of hard-hitting rock and indie-rock. Leaning towards the power of the 1990s rock sound, the track offers a hint of nostalgia; however, its music insightfully embodies timeless themes. Brian Wolff explains:

“’Leave The Lights On’ is a fun and hopeful anthem that captures the excitement, thrill and uncertainty of a budding romance…”

A bold concoction of pounding drums, soaring guitars, bold bass, and powerful keys, ‘Leave The Lights On’ is a rush of hard-hitting sound. Yet, as much as there is a heaviness in the rock tone, a light-hearted, laidback, smile-inducing tenderness exudes in its vibrant tones. For me, Wolff’s rich vocals really enhance the emotion in ‘Leave The Lights On’. Swaggering across the tune with a Springsteen attitude, there is confidence; however, simultaneously, a hint of vulnerability makes the track heartfelt.

Exploring the joy of new love – those butterflies in the tummy and can’t stop smiling moments – ‘Leave The Lights On’ is cheerful and jovial. This is my introduction to Brian Wolff & The Howlers, and I have to say I’m thrilled to have discovered the band. ‘Leave The Lights On’ has sparked my curiosity, so excuse me while I spend some time exploring their previous material. Highly recommended, and I can’t wait for the new EP.
