Breeze – Adrenaline (2022)

With an average age of 18, indie-rock group Breeze is one of the younger bands to hit my virtual desk this year. The thing is, despite their youth and the fact that Breeze was formed not too long ago, the lads show a sophisticated musicality exceeding their age. Known for their energetic performances, Breeze built a name for themselves before releasing any singles – now they are turning heads in the blogosphere. Featured on RGM, Right Chord Music and Sinusoidal Music, the UK-based foursome is reaching audiences far beyond their native Yorkshire. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Adrenaline’.

Following their single ‘Eyes Wide Open’, Breeze adopts an aggressive, abrupt and brash sound in ‘Adrenaline’. All too well suited to its title, the new song sends you spinning at a million miles per hour pumping adrenaline through your veins. Unlike ‘Eyes Wide Open’, which is high-paced in its own way, ‘Adrenaline’ is feisty and ferocious. Scorching guitars effortlessly meld with pounding drums creating a head-spinning melody. If you add Albert Anderson’s vocals and you have a song pushing you to sprint through a night out. Interestingly enough, while the arrangement is harmonious, each instrument has a prominent presence giving all elements their own stage.

“I knew I was onto a winner after I wrote the first verse, straight from the get-go. It just hits you like a proper indie anthem should do. It was a class time recording, we were all just so in our element, and once again, what’s a recording session without a night out? Me and Declan Rodgers ended up off our heads on Stella and Sambuca and ended up in a proper dodgy bar surrounded by women and a taekwondo master. We still don’t know how we got back to the studio the next day.” -Albert Anderson on ‘Adrenaline’

While one could compare the group to Arctic Monkeys, there is innocence sprinkled across their sound. Anderson’s rich vocals warm the upbeat melody and seem to lead the tune (or rather lead partygoers) through the organised chaos. If you aren’t prepared to run through insanity, then this is probably not the song for you; but I recommend you give it a go anyway.
