Brave New Broken Hearts Club – Higher (2022)

Described by The European Indie Network as “…an obviously English voice genuinely like no other artists you’ve ever heard”, Brave New Broken Hearts Club is an authentic, original musician standing out above the rest. The solo project of singer-songwriter and producer Neil Phillimore, Brave New Broken Hearts Club is a reflective musician with charm, tenderness and sophistication. Already a favourite among The Other Side Reviews, Phillimore has our hearts, but he has also built a loyal following across the globe with numerous features in blogs and playlists. The latest addition to his critically acclaimed discography is ‘Higher’.

The third single of 2022, ‘Higher’ touches on themes of self-growth, empowerment and positive growth. As with his reflective track, ‘All I Have Is Now’, ‘Higher’ adopts a stripped-away bareback tone in its melody and lyrical theme. Neil Phillimore explains that the track draws from his ethos of “every day being an opportunity to grow, to get closer to our truest selves…” Infused with his personal experiences of depression, anxiety and inner turmoil, ‘Higher’ prompts people to find a life lesson in the emotional tapestry to live in a world of uncertainty.

Combining soothing guitars and steady drumbeats in its melodic arrangement, ‘Higher’ has a rich, bold landscape of sound; however, there appears to be a hazy ambience that sends your soul soaring to a higher dimension. Once again, Brave New Broken Hearts Club sends me soaring off onto a sonic cloud with the English-inflexed vocal execution amidst a soothing melody. I come across several tunes on a daily basis, but this artist stands out not only because of his distinctive sound but how his dulcet tones share the desperation and hopefulness of the songs.
