Brave New Broken Hearts Club – All I Have Is Now (2022)

Creative, innovative, engaging and naturally talented – all terms that describe singer-songwriter Brave New Broken Hearts Club. The solo project of songwriter and producer Neil Phillimore, Brave New Broken Hearts Club aims to share a sense of empowerment and strength through his music. Beginning as a catharsis to use creativity for the sake of his own wellbeing, Phillimore chose to share his sensational sound with the masses. Receiving coverage from Pitchfork, Info Music and various playlists, Brave New Broken Hearts Club is captivating hearts across the globe. The latest addition to his repertoire is the single ‘All I Have Is Now’.

On the heels of his track ‘A Little Piece of Me’, UK-based Phillimore adopts a far more delicate sound in ‘All I Have Is Now’. Using an acoustic-inspired style, ‘All I Have Is Now’ presents an almost palpable vulnerability in the melodic arrangement. Simplistic guitars meld elegantly with endearing drums resulting in a mellowness in the track. Yet, while there is a mellow, laidback tone to the single, a melancholic quality can be felt throughout. Perhaps it’s the simplicity of the melody that sends shivers down your spine, but I believe the lyricism has a strong spine-chilling effect.

Intimate and endearing, Phillimore uses a personal narrative to reach listeners on another level. As with his previous work, he once again represents our brave new broken hearts through a kaleidoscopic soundscape. Gruff vocals seem to speak rather than sing about existential uncertainty and the despondency we all felt during the pandemic. He shares that nothing in life is certain and “…the only thing we are guaranteed is the moment that we are in.”

This might be viewed as depressing and heart-breaking, but there is an empowerment in the fatalist concept. Instead of lying down and living with listlessness, we should seek delight in everything around us. To learn from the experience and use what you don’t have control over to create something more hopeful.
