boWsER – Supersonic (2020)

Hailing from the sunny shores of Australia, alternative rock trio boWsER is breeding their own unique brand of music. Lying somewhere between Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden and Them Crooked Vultures, the group combine heavy melodies with compelling lyrics. While the band formed over a decade ago, they recently returned from their musical hiatus with the well-received single ‘People In The TV’. The latest addition to their critically acclaimed repertoire is ‘Supersonic’ – the second single off their highly anticipated EP Whispers From The Wickerman.

Produced by renowned Australia/UK producer Steve James, ‘Supersonic’ has a well-arranged clarity and texture that emphasises the eclecticism of boWsER. Easily compared with acts like Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters, the dynamic instrumentation hits you in the face from the distorted guitars to the pounding drums. With the elegant incorporation of gritty vocals, but with a warm robustness making the song far more substantial, ‘Supersonic’ is engaging, versatile and all-encompassing.

Unlike the heavier ‘People In The TV’, ‘Supersonic’ has a glint of obscurity with grunge-like undertones and the bluntness of White Stripes and Arctic Monkeys. As with the change in their styles, ‘Supersonic’ illustrates boWsER’s versatility as artists. Energetic and high-paced from the beginning, I would love to hear the anthemic track played live. I’m sure it would be as ear-splittingly awesome as it is on Spotify.
