Bones In Butter – Scenes From The Metro (2023)

Bones In Butter – a band evading genres since their formation in 2019. Described by Sinusoidal Music as “…an amazing alt-rock band from Serbia with wonderful, experienced and talented musicians”, Bones In Butter is garnering praise from at least one of the notable independent music blogs. The thing is, they’re not the only ones who adore this group’s music. Featured on Rising Artists Blog, PopFad Blog, Indie Chronique, Illustrated Magazine and The Other Side Reviews (that’s us!), Bones In Butter is breaking boundaries far beyond their Serbian borders.

Following the well-received single ‘Down But Not Out’, the six-piece release a new sonic pleasure for the ears with ‘Scenes From The Metro’. Distorted, psychedelic and a little uncomfortable in its cinematic soundscape, ‘Scenes From The Metro’ has a hazy, heart-breaking feel to it. Founder Milutin Krasevic explains that the song “is sort of experimental as it represents our venture into the post-rock and psychedelic genres. I tried to conjure an atmosphere that is reminiscent of the 1930s but would also contain futuristic or even dystopian elements…” – and, boy, have the lads done this with ‘Scenes From The Metro’. I suppose, however, the eclectic arrangement and style push the dystopian theme behind this new single.

“It is a sad but true tale. It is the heartbreaking story of a centennial dream, the dream of the Belgrade Metro, a project that has never been implemented…the empty depths of Belgrade, one of Europe’s last capitals without an underground network…and weep with us.” – Milutin Krasevic on ‘Scenes From The Metro’

As Krasevic mentioned, the new single further explores the post-punk and psychedelic genres – a transition that was heard slightly in ‘Down But Not Out’. What makes this full evolution truly interesting is how Bones In Butter are unafraid to step entirely out of their comfort zone taking listeners with them. Melancholic and poignant, the new song cuts into your soul with its lingering desperation. Interestingly enough, while despair exists in the distressing sound, a hopefulness wistfully haunts the melody.
