Blueburst – Amplify Me (2023)
Promoting the theme of “taking the life by the balls”, singer-songwriter Craig Douglas Miller pushes the idea of carpe diem every day. Returning to music after a couple of decades hiatus, US-based Miller overcame all the bad and disappointing parts of life to create something fun and intriguing. An old-school rocker in a modern-day world, this talented music veteran brings the awe-inspiring feeling of overwhelming rock music to current-day audiences. Performing under the name Blueburst, Miller began sharing his tunes a few months ago. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Amplify Me’.
Following his well-received singles ‘Vanish’ and ‘Supernova’, Miller is turning heads across the globe with critical acclaim from notable publications (Clout, New Noise Magazine and Obscure Music). In fact, he turned our heads as well with these outstanding songs. On the heels of ‘Supernova’, ‘Amplify Me’ is harder, heavier and more intense than previous material. As with ‘Supernova’, there is a strong rock flavour yet rage simmers below the alternative rock tone.
Gruff, grim and oozing darkness through the melody, ‘Amplify Me’ leans toward the sounds of 90s hard rock but with a tinge of the 80s in the mix. Employing the skills of legendary guitarist Marty Willson-Piper, Miller draws together pounding drums within a dark pool of bold guitars. Listening to the melody is like staring into a dark mire of angst feeling the pain, desperation, despair and turmoil wafting from this abyss.
The melody itself can keep you captivated in its heart-breaking depth, but it is the lyricism and theme that hits you in the gut. Taking a step away from his carpe diem demeanour, Miller notes the underlying grime people feel when ignored even if they are seizing the day. He explains that ‘Amplify Me’ is “about the rage that’s created when we feel like we’re not being heard, and the sound expresses that…”
Built on frustration, anger and a desire to simply be heard, you can easily lose your head in the gut-wrenching single ‘Amplify Me’.
