Blue Shirt Charlie – Misty (2023)

Beginning with their unique brand of Americana back in the day, Blue Shirt Charlie was building a loyal following several decades ago. They sang, smiled, played killer tunes and won the hearts of audiences; then it hit the fan and the band dissolved. Not giving up on music, Richie Sessions, Russ Chapman and Lex Lipsitz continued musical endeavours fronting different bands and writing songs for artists; however, the call of Blue Shirt Charlie lingered in the air. In 2022, the lads reconvened to share their intriguing music once again with the world. Already hitting our virtual pages twice this year, the trio is back with their new single ‘Misty’.

Following their well-received songs ‘Crazy Woman’ and ‘Shelter’, the US-based group become introspective with ‘Misty’. Known for thought-provoking melodies, Blue Shirt Charlie has already explored “real-life tragedies of family and friends” and “mental health struggles weighing on a family” but now they take on a more conceptual theme. Touching on meaningful connections and self-discovery, ‘Misty’ jumps into our brains and considers the philosophical perspective of being happy.

“The narrator in ‘Misty’ has quit – stopped seeking out meaningful connection. The song catches them realising love is indifferent to whether you think you deserve it. Somebody said the difference between misery and happiness is two things – something to look forward to and someone to share it with. In ‘Misty’ we wanted to find what it feels like when those pieces come together.” – Blue Shirt Charlie on ‘Misty’

Filled with a profound depth in the poetic lyricism, one might consider ‘Misty’ to be quite heavy, but the melody is a little less daunting. Laidback with chilled-out vibes, Blue Shirt Charlie draws together the best of country and soft rock in this single. Soft guitars fuse with steady drums to create a soothing, tender and relaxing composition. Interestingly enough, while the song could be thought lighter than the lyricism, it eloquently captures the sense of self-reflection and discovery through its powerful sound.
