Blue Painted Flag – Daisy and Dandelions (2023)
Finding a slice between the icy winds from the North Sea and the warm sun on a late summer afternoon, singer-songwriter Blue Painted Flag exists. Hailing from Sweden, Stockholm to be exact, this indie artist keeps “…you warm like a lit fireplace during a cold winter night” in his mellifluous melodies. This is my introduction to Blue Painted Flag, but he is already turning heads across the blogosphere with coverage on Send Me Your Ears, Rising Artists Blog and Sinusoidal Music. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Daisy and Dandelions’.
Following his well-received ‘Druckit Sprit’, ‘Daisy and Dandelions’ is a soothing combination of silky guitars atop toe-tapping drums drifting along a nostalgic psychedelic sonic river. Smooth, flowing and filled with gentle energy, ‘Daisy and Dandelions’ calms you from the first mellifluous chord. Add the bold, warm dulcet vocals of Blue Painted Flag and you have something to be played on repeat over and over and over…
Unlike ‘Druckit Sprit’ which has a strong old-school folk tone, ‘Daisy and Dandelions’ is much fuller and richer higlighting Blue Painted Flag’s diversity as an artist. Interestingly enough, while the melody has a soft elegance, the psychedelic melody holds a significant theme bringing heaviness to the track. Blue Painted Flag explains “I have been battling depression for over 12 years after my eyesight broke down. I was a lonely and lost dandelion looking for a purpose, hoping to one day be able to feel the sun, not only on my skin but in my soul. One day the sunshine pierced through my body…as a daisy in the spring. The song tries to capture the dance between the daisy and the dandelion…”
Sincere, sentimental and soul-stirring, Blue Painted Flags fills the corners of my mind and being with a mesmerising sound.
