Blindness & Light – Another Day (2022)

If The Smiths were to have a child with Joy Division and Radiohead raised it, the chances are likely it would be Blindness & Light. The solo project of UK-based Colin Potter, Blindness & Light has a nostalgic flair with a contemporary rock sound. Considering Potter only began releasing music as a solo artist in 2022, he might be thought a newbie in the indie music industry; however, the sophistication of his songs shows he has knowledge far beyond those newbies. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Another Day’.

Following his well-received single ‘Chains’, Blindness & Light adopts an old-school grunge sound in ‘Another Day’. Produced with Tony Denmade, the song is a melodic combination of guitars, drums and gruff vocals. A slight distortion exists in the guitars giving it that grunge feel, but the overall harmony and interplay of instrumentation give it a soothing sound, albeit a bit gritty. The well-textured arrangement is easy on the ears while still tossing you into a kaleidoscopic sonic whirlpool. I suppose you could say there’s a warm hug as you spin about with multi-coloured lights all about.

Just as the melody has depth, so does the poetic lyricism. Touching on toxic relationships, Blindness & Light explains that ‘Another Day’ “is about living with a chaotic person that you can’t be without and ultimately being sucked into their lifestyle.” The grungy tone of ‘Another Day’ perfectly matches the melancholic theme resulting in a palpable grittiness.

Sincere, sentimental, reflective and brutally honest, Blindness & Light can capture your heart with his song ‘Another Day’.
