Bitchin Hour – Time To Burn (2023)
With a bang and a thud and raw emotion oozing from every crack in the dramatic wall kaleidoscopically hitting you over the head, Bitchin Hour is a force of nature. Hailing from the UK, Leonie Wilson (vocals), Feeney (lead guitar), Ched Cheeseman (bass) and Beth Lock (drums) might be reaching our ears now but have already reached ears far beyond their UK borders- whether as individual artists or in Bitchin Hour. From The UK to Japan, Portugal, the USA and Germany, Bitchin Hour is described as brightening the alternative rock scene with its sound of talent and raw emotion.
With a vocalist who was singing before speaking, a drummer who has over two decades experience (so they really don’t give a damn what they’re playing), a lead guitarist bringing a bold influence to the group, and a bassist with Elvis threatening moves, Bitchin Hour create this platform for known, unknown, new and old artists to make a noise. Established as one of the voices in the LGBTQ+ music scene, Bitchin Hour promote LGBTQ+ rights with their female-fronted hard rock making you jump along while simultaneously brooding in the corner – the best type of brooding, of course.
Following their well-received single ‘Tooth and Nail’, Wilson and Lock are joined by two “Bitchin boys” Cheeseman and Feeney in ‘Time To Burn’. Retaining a hard-hitting blast of rock and metal, Bitchin Hour is the younger sister of Halestorm and Coheed and Cambria – aggressive and with more angsty ferocity. A blast of melodic metal hits your body sending shivers throughout before a slicing scorch of guitar pulls down met by the pounding of drums all wrapped in a vivacious twirl of sonic bliss.
One aspect I find intriguing about ‘Time To Burn’ and Bitchin Hour, is the seductive nature of the heart-pounding sound stamping along and dragging you through a slightly distorted soundscape shimmering with an unpredictable but harmonic rhythm. Even more intriguing is how this style is both mind-numbingly frantic and insightfully profound. In ‘Time To Burn’, the group take us on a reeling journey to learn from the pain of heartbreak and build a greater, stronger, more resilient version of yourself.
