Big Sleep – Go (2024)

Brimming with enthusiasm, energy, and high-voltage currents of music, Big Sleep can turn your head and win your heart with a single note. Drawing together their Irish and Italian influences, the Ireland-based foursome saunter through various genres picking up a glimmer of funk, a dash of pop, a slice of jazz, and a hit of indie, all rolled into a kaleidoscopic melting pot of sound. Pushing the borders of conventionalism with eclectic grace, you might consider Big Sleep to lean toward a particular genre, the next second you’re completely overruled.

We first came across Big Sleep earlier this year with their track ‘Fingerlickin’ Goodness’ off the EP Isn’t That Sweet and 2024 has been a rollercoaster with festival appearances, European tours, international airtime, chart-topping singles and winning the 2FM’s Rising Artists of 2024. Come with us as we join the rollercoaster in their new single, ‘Go’.

Following the well-received songs ‘Daisy’, ‘All My Friends’ and ‘Two Cents’, ‘Go’ is the fourth release in 2024. Recorded and produced with Chris Ryan, with mixing and mastering by Tone Def, ‘Go’ takes a step down from the bold beats in ‘Daisy’. Slipping into an indie-rock style, the new single steps back to the 90s with vintage indie and slips of grunge. Interestingly, while the track is filled with nostalgic whispers, there is a contemporary edginess making ‘Go’ perfect for audiences old and new.

The melody is laidback, chilled and infectious in its soothing demeanour, but far more lies beneath. A gentle breeze flutters above while profound depth is heard in the lyricism. The band explains:

“’Go’ is about navigating the fleeting connections and temporary love that are part of life during young adulthood. During this time everybody’s on their own path eager to be something, run from something or a bit of both and it’s hard for connections to last in the midst of all that. It’s a slow jam of a song but definitely packed with energy. We find it keeps building tension throughout till the last chorus when there’s this release and more melodies and emotion shine through.’
