Big River – Beautiful Trauma (2022)

Some fans seem to complain about high-energy, blues-infused rock. Their complaint can be out in a few words – “there’s nothing new there.” Ok, so that might be the case (or might not) but very often that is not the point, either for the artists doing it or their quite devoted audience. Such high-energy music creates buzz and excitement among most rock fans, of course, if it is played well and with a hefty dose of emotion. Big River and Beautiful Trauma, their latest four-track EP is exactly the case in point.

Adam Barron (vocals), Damo Fawsett (guitar), Simon Gardiner (bass), and Joe Martin (drums/backing vocals) who started out in 2016 have been on a journey since their first album, Redemption (released in 2019). As they note, the band have been developing new material and new ways of writing, performing and collaborating. With a new singer and bass player, Big River has now put together this EP.

Announcing the new EP, drummer, Joe Martin, says: “These songs have been performed live and have gone down a storm with all audiences. Through the changes, Big River has maintained its thunderous live sound, but it’s that bit sweeter. The future is bright.”

And frankly, it’s no wonder. All of the EP’s tracks are high-octane energy blues rock of the best kind that genre can offer. It is sung and played both with high skill and a high level of emotion, something any audience into this kind of music can immediately sense and feel, hence a very good chance the band’s UK tour will probably be jam-packed.
