Betty Moon – Boilermaker (2023)

Larger than life with a badass attitude bringing up the rear, singer-songwriter Betty Moon has been a multi-genre force of nature for over 20 years. Known for her DIY ethos and approach to music, Moon’s music has a rawness in her melodies sending chills down your spine with a unique sound. Self-releasing ten albums via her label Evolver Records, this songstress has earned critical acclaim from numerous critics, earned worldwide retail airplay and has built a strong online following. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Boilermaker’.

Following her single ‘Valentine’, Betty Moon takes on Royal Blood’s popular rock track ‘Boilermaker’. The original version has an indie-rock meets hard-rock and metal tone with a mild reminiscence to The White Stripes in its thumping execution. Yet, while Moon retains the thumping-ness and hard rock attitude of Royal Blood’s song, there is a heavier, moodier and more sensual tone to it. Moon shares that “’Boilermaker’ is one of my favourite rock tracks of the modern era and I was excited to lean into it with my own swagger…I wanted to put something fresh out there for the fans and I hope you enjoy the song as much as I did making it for you all.”

As I mentioned, there is a dark rawness to Betty Moon’s music and this is enhanced by the vivacious sensuality heard in ‘Boilermaker’. Unlike ‘Valentine’, she adopts a bad-girl kick in the new single. While I immediately thought of Taryn Manning in ‘The Wreckoning’, Betty Moon brings greater obscurity through her sultry vocal execution. I imagine her stomping about in a catsuit with a haughty look on her face, a cheeky wink and some mind-blowing swagger. Add the powerful guitars and drums, and you have a song to knock Royal Blood out of the water.
