Baywud – Bombs Away (2021)

Baywud left us an emotional mess with the EP MMXX. Now, he is blowing us away with the motive power of ‘Bombs Away’. Telling the story of the end of a relationship, he uses powerful imagery to bring the final stages of a romance to our ears. While drawing on the idea of dropping a bomb on the remains of the relationship, he also brings a thread of strength and hope for a better future.

Co-written and recorded with Rune Westberg, the single leads listeners to the understanding that when there is nothing left in a relationship, bravery and self-love will help you find answers. The depths of the message and emotions of the single shine in the official music video as well. Baywud brings the metaphor and heart-wrenching emotions through the relatively simple visuals which have a greater impact than you might imagine.

The strumming tones that open ‘Bombs Away’ meet the popping drops of the higher layer to grab your attention. There is this forward feeling to the melody that leads you through the soundscape and into the emotions Baywud is so good at laying out. The layers of music intertwine and ride through the clouds of the single. The beats start to get more play as the single continues, but the guitars temper their movement. The higher tones that shone in the opening come and go throughout the single.

While the melody is a solid movement that pushes you into the single, it is Baywud’s vocals that steal the show. As you ride the melody, his voice tenderly draws you close and smoothly unleashes the emotions of the single. He has you feeling the final stages of relationships from the pain of losing the love you had and the need to break free from the tattered remains. As the song progresses, his builds up a sense of self-love and strength which is needed to pick yourself up after the end of a relationship.

With ‘Bombs Away’, Baywud continues his ability to fill you with emotion both positive and negative. From the start of the track, he has you feeling the pain and hurt of a relationship ending only to turn this into a tentative strength allowing you to move forward. As his smooth vocals wash your senses with emotion, the melody forms a solid vehicle to drive you through the imagery and emotions.
